The main items this month were around Merchant Centre and Google Shopping:

Not only did Merchant Centre Next roll out to all users, new reporting tools for Performance Max campaigns were added. These include generative AI tools that help advertisers create more effective ads by automatically generating headlines, descriptions, and images. The updates were designed to help advertisers craft more effective ads, gain deeper insights into their performance, and maintain brand safety throughout Google’s ad network.

Google Search Console now allows merchants to set and monitor their shipping and return policies directly in search results. By adding this data via structured markup or Google Merchant Center, businesses can enhance their visibility and click-through rates by displaying this crucial information alongside their product listings. In other Google news…

 Google has updated its search algorithms to better handle ‘deepfakes’ and has expanded its “About this image” feature, which provides users with more context about images they encounter online, helping to combat misinformation and enhance image transparency.

 

The Search Engine has also postponed its plans to phase out third-party cookies in Chrome, extending the timeline until 2025. This move gives advertisers and developers more time to adapt to a future with less reliance on cookies for tracking and targeting.

In social news, Meta has introduced custom offers and new call-to-action (CTA) buttons for Instagram ads, allowing businesses to tailor promotions and engage users more effectively with personalised offers directly within the app.
