As part of our Megantic Mentors initiative, we have been working with Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School for the past two years on a volunteer basis to run a mentorship program for a select group of Year 12 students.
As much as this is beneficial for the students, it is also hugely beneficial for our mentors. Our 2022 mentors were Blake, Emily, Harvey, Heath, Jeremy, Patricia and Vandi.
The first session was an initial meet-and-greet, led by Jeremy and teachers from Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School.
In our second meeting, we focused on job readiness. Emily and Harvey discussed:
“I enjoyed learning about applicable life skills and about the job process from the admin side” – Anonymous Student Mentee
Heath ran the third session, a workshop on business and entrepreneurship. He went over:
The fourth session was facilitated by Blake, Patricia and Vandana, and it focused on technical SEO and understanding data. Here, the students learnt more about Megantic and the work we do for our clients. From no knowledge about SEO, they can now distinguish between on-page, off-page and technical SEO. This session involved some fun games and the winners each won some branded Megantic merch.
Our final workshop was at the request of the students. They felt more information regarding interviews would be most beneficial, so we ran a session on mock interviews. The agenda included:
“This program has been a joy to be involved in. The students seemed to really enjoy learning about SEO and I am proud to be a part of their education” – Emily Bencsics, Marketing & Digital Coordinator.
“I enjoyed how the advice and guidance given in the session isn’t what you normally hear when these topics are covered, giving another valuable perspective for us students.” – Anonymous Student Mentee
“Helpful and engaging overall, with a lot of tips and information about your fields of work and workplaces in general, so there’s something for everyone.” – Anonymous Student Mentee
We hope to continue our partnership with Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School and continue to empower Women in Digital in the coming years.
