Phillip Vo is Megantic’s Head of Growth. Working with Megantic for the past 5 years, he started as an eCommerce Analyst and quickly progressed to Team Lead and led the international UK expansion for Megantic.
He won the strategy pitch for three of Megantic’s largest clients to date and has led the Business Development and Sales teams to develop go-to-market strategies. He now works closely with the senior management team to introduce new revenue streams and initiatives to deliver YoY growth, whilst leading the consulting and strategic planning for enterprise tier projects.
I spoke with Phillip about his career growth at Megantic. Read about his journey below.
I’m feeling excited for my flight to Brisbane tonight to go to Retail Fest next week and be a panellist on the live website analysis sessions!
My role involves working with enterprise tier projects to analyse their website for new market opportunities and provide recommendations for growing their online revenue. Some of the projects I’ve spearheaded the scoping and development of strategy for are: Repco, Forty Winks and The Good Guys. I created their technical SEO strategy and worked with both Project Managers and the client’s internal teams to ensure synergy and results. I also work closely with senior management to grow Megantic’s total revenue and brand through introducing new revenue streams and some partnerships.
I was first hired at Megantic in 2018 as an eCommerce Analyst. My role was to research and strategise new revenue growth opportunities for prospective clients and In under a year, I revamped our consulting model, enabling the team to deliver impactful insights to the clients which resulted in us winning more clients and growing revenue by 40% YoY.
In 2019 Megantic began its global expansion and I was appointed and trusted by senior management to lead the UK launch and business development initiatives for Megantic globally. During this time I simultaneously was leading the Australian Sales & Business Development teams.
In mid-2020, once UK had successfully launched, I focused on addressing head on the market volatility presented by the pandemic and moved into a split role across strategy, consulting key accounts and continuing to spearhead the growth of Megantic’s new client acquisitions.
Most recently in 2022 I was promoted to Head of Growth, where I now assist our Technical Project Leads as the commercial lead for our enterprise clients and manage a handful of tech partnerships to propel Megantic’s offering into new markets.
Every day looks different! It’s what I love most about the job. One day it can be working with our enterprise clients such as The Good Guys to develop their yearly SEO goals and project focuses, whilst another is working with our Data Analytics team to extract insights from our business performance and identify new opportunities for operational efficiencies. A day could also involve meeting with our partners for lunches, dinners and drinks (we call it “networking”) to strengthen our partnerships and uncover new ways of providing value to our shared clients.
Working with Australia’s largest retailers in automotive, home and electronics to help them transform their online retail experience and digital sales. This enables me to live out my passion to be at the helm for the business of the future and it’s exciting to be in a fast paced industry that’s constantly evolving with innovation.
I recently completed a certificate in Business Strategy from Harvard Business School and achieved the highest grade in my RMIT eCommerce strategy course cohort. I’m also a big believer in applying the theory from books, into a practical environment and outside of my 9 to 5, with the support of Megantic. I consult start up brands within the creative industries to improve their business operations and define their go to market strategies.
Over the next few years, I’d love to continue leading Megantic into new international markets, whilst cementing the new revenue streams to deliver YoY results. Personally I’m focused on leading with compassion and effectively motivating a team by painting a compelling vision for growth to strive towards.
That success is defined by the person you become whilst striving to achieve your goals, not achieving the goal itself. My advice for anyone is, give yourself the same level of compassion you would give to others.
Thanks for chatting with us, Phillip. We’re excited to witness your future journey and how you will continue to grow with the team at Megantic.
