Sinviana Meliani is one of our Technical eCommerce Webmasters, part of the Technical Development team. She was recently promoted from Junior eCommerce Webmaster after only one year, during which she covered the parental leave of two of our Web Producers, a mammoth task given their experienced skillset.
I spoke with Sinvi about her career growth at Megantic. Read about her journey below.
Thanks for asking, I’m doing well. Things are good and I got to get away from the city over the weekend which helps recharge my energy to tackle another busy week.
I started my journey with Megantic over a year ago as a Junior eCommerce Webmaster. During the first six months, I was continually learning about the processes, limitations and capabilities of major eCommerce platforms that Megantic commonly work with (i.e., Shopify, Maropost, Magento, WooCommerce, WordPress and custom platforms).
After going through the initial learning phase, I was gradually introduced to the role of web producing in which I work closely with the Technical Project Managers, offshore Web Development Team and client stakeholders to implement category restructuring and other miscellaneous website adjustments for best SEO results.
I now work with strong, well-established market leaders from various industries in Australia, including Craft Zero, Decorug, Pamper Hamper Gifts and Scrap Dragon.
I have always been fascinated by the power of STEM since I was in high school. My interest in the IT industry was intensified throughout my university years, as I received my Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (Network Technology) from Swinburne University of Technology
There has been a surge in demand in the IT sector over the last few decades as the world is becoming increasingly digital, and this is reflected through the growing use of digital tools across all industries and many new job opportunities in technology and data. Personally, I chose to work at Megantic because I see huge opportunities of growth for the eCommerce industry in retail’s post-pandemic future.
The recent promotion definitely comes with more responsibilities, but I didn’t feel burdened at all as my senior team members have gradually prepared me for this over the last 6 months. I have been given the opportunity to handle a fair amount of implementations which involve simpler platforms such as Shopify and Neto. Now, I am actively learning to do implementations for much more complex platforms – Magento and WordPress to name a few. In short, I used to deal mostly with the front-end development of the website and now I’m shifting to managing the back-end.
No doubt, I find it most rewarding when I saw our clients achieve organic SEO success with our new structure during the reporting period.
I am currently working on implementation projects for two market leaders from different sectors; they are AdMerch and Hip Kids. In this phase, I am working together with the Project Managers and clients to implement Megantic’s proposed website structure and SEO strategies that are customised to each client. Also, I am still handling most of the Ad Hoc tasks for website adjustments and technical troubleshooting.
Good question here as it helps me reflect on my career journey with Megantic. I find it most challenging to build and maintain trusting relationships with the client – this requires a lot of effort and does not happen overnight – but it feels so good and work becomes so much easier when you finally earn their trust. To answer the other question, I wouldn’t say it is the easiest but it definitely took me less time now to handle the Ad Hoc technical tasks compared to when I first started as I already had the knowledge and experience.
I truly like the saying “Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow”. I would say that I am very grateful for my team members who are always willing to teach me and share their knowledge. Also, I joined quite a few SEO groups on LinkedIn and listened to SEO podcasts sometimes – learning can happen anywhere and anytime nowadays! Lastly, I have already had a written plan to take a professional course for eCommerce Web Development and Project Management next year.
One of my goals for the next few years is to become a guest speaker or mentor. The first step to meet this goal would be to become a mentor with the Megantic Mentoring Program. This program mentors high school students from a nearby school, and I hope to participate in the 2023 cohort.
I think the best piece of advice that is always in the back of my mind is “work hard but work smarter”, my team leader and supervisor always emphasised on the importance of work-life balance.
Let’s not look too far, I really look up to Rudy and Jane as they always amaze me with their extensive knowledge, skills, experience in eCommerce Web Development.
Thanks for chatting with us, Sinvi. We’re excited to see where the future will take you and how you will continue to grow with the team at Megantic.
